Tempo of the game. Learn the basics

What do we mean by the tempo of the game? It is misunderstood but is vitally important to the flow of the game.

It all starts with the first pitch that is thrown. The objective is to get the pitcher in a groove as soon as possible and to speed the tempo of the game up. How? By getting the ball back to the pitcher as soon as possible. The pitcher also plays a part. When he is in a groove, he needs to not waist any time walking around the mound, etc. He should get the ball, get on the rubber, and take his sign and let's go!

It's important for the catcher to establish this as quickly as he can. This will help the entire team out and keep them alert.

From a coaching standpoint, it is up to the coach to instill this into the team before they even reach the field. It should be talked about and practiced to perfect it. It all starts on the sideline with the right mindset and then taken to the field.

Other factors to help with the tempo is for your team to always be hustling. Running on the field and off the field. It promotes the right attitude. The winning attitude. It carries over onto the field.Remember, establish a groove, get it going, and run with it. Hustle on and off the field and take control of the game. And play the way you want!
