Baseball Strategies. From hitting to throwing to coaching

Baseball strategies of the game. We all know that the game of baseball seems so simple and baseball strategies are a big part of it. Throw a ball, hit it with a bat, and try to score runs. Simple right? NO! The game is rather complex and involves many baseball strategies that aren't always apparent to the normal viewer. Let's take a look further.

How many of you know that when a pitcher gets in a groove that the catcher will try to get the ball back to him quickly and to speed up the process? Why? There is a psychological advantage when it appears that the team is spending less time on the field and is spending more time at the plate. This is simply one of the baseball strategies used. There is a lot to learn about the tempo of the game. This can be a bit demoralizing even if it's not really apparent that this is taking place.

On the other side of the coin, how many times have you seen when a pitcher is taking his time between pitches and is constantly going to a full count on the batter? This simply causes the other effect. The defense tends to relax a little bit more and the next thing you know, an error is caused in the field, or the infielder didn't quite get to the ball because he has been standing around for awhile. Do you see what I mean?

These are some of the little things in baseball strategies that not everyone sees. And it is only a portion of everything that goes on. There are many other strategies involved.

Let's look at a few. There is the strategy of playing what is called, small ball. That's where team tries to manufacture runs via the bunt, steal, hit-and-run,etc.. And then there is large ball. This is where a team sits back and waits for the big home run. This usually happens when a team is loaded with long ball hitters and not very many speedsters. Which brings up another point.

Know your team and personnel. And know your opposition. What kind of team do you have? Are they capable of the long ball. Or are they better suited for the small ball strategy. Hmmmm. How will this affect how you manage the game?

Some teams utilize both strategies. They use their speedsters up front in the line-up and than stock the middle part with the long hitters. Etc, etc. There is more to the eye than just a ball and a bat. Click on the links below to learn more.
