BASEBALL EXERCISES

Baseball Exercises

Baseball is a type of sport that requires explosive energy and strength for short amounts of time. Possibly one of the best ways to become a good baseball player is to simply play the game.Proper form and technique can be taught correctly from utilizing the specific exercises related to hitting, pitching, and running.

Running sprints is a way to improve base running and can be performed both during the on and off season. At a minimum a player should practice sprints at least 3 times a week and up to 5 times a week (plus some distance running or jogging to add some variety) for a cardiovascular workout.

For hitters, besides going to a batting practice session with a coach, core and strength training in a weight room is a must especially during the off season. Squats, lunges, leg extensions and curls, bench press, military press, bent-over row are some examples of this type of training. Strength training works best when added to a three day cardiovascular program. Be sure and stay limber and try not to bulk up as this can take away from your elasticity which is vital in the baseball mechanics.

A good pitcher knows that proper technique and form produce greater results than just strength training alone. In season pitchers should look for a pitching coach that knows the mechanics of pitching and how to use both your upper and lower body to transfer energy to your arm and the ball. Off-season pitchers should focus on strength training. But a pitcher should also take time to practice his skill with a coach or another player during the off-season to improve technique.

Adding weight training along with a good coach can produce great results. Always work on good technique and form when performing these baseball exercises and keep on trying!
