Pregame strategies will help you prepare for the upcoming
game. How do we employ pregame strategies? And what is the right strategy?
There are several factors to consider while contemplating this dilemma.
One of the biggest strategies to employ is simply to prepare and practice
the right way. The right way consists of taking the proper pregame practice
routines. Batting practice consists of your hitters starting off with bunts,
moving on to hit and run, getting the runner over. And getting him in. Batting
practice is not just a swing away session. Have an idea and a purpose to what
you are doing.
Taking infield employs the same techniques. Practice the way you are going
to play. Taking infield practice before the game should be taken serious.
Use this time to work on your throws in a mental game type situation. Work on
your footwork, work on staying on top of the ball, and work on your accuracy.
Take it serious and you will start to practice how you play.
The other pregame strategy to know, is to know your opponent beforehand. What
kind of team are they? Are they a speedy gonzalez type of team that likes to
run all the time? Do they like to steal every time on certain counts? Do they
hit and run a lot? And on what counts? Do they like to bunt? What is their
strategy?Know these things.
Are they a team that likes to sit back and wait for the long ball to rescue
them. Is their team made of sluggers and very few speed demons? When playing
the game, do they ever steal, hit and run, or bunt? Once again, know these
things.
Know who is swinging a hot bat for the other team. If no one is on, there is no
need to give in to the one person on that team that can hurt you. Prime example
is Barry Bonds of the Giants. Do you think they pitch around him when they can?
You better believe it! Know who can hurt you and who is a better risk to pitch
to.
Above all, knowledge is king. Knowing your opponent and knowing your own
team will help you prepare for the task at hand and that is winning the
ballgame. Practice the right way all the time. And be smart about how you
practice. Do it with a purpose and just watch the changes that will unfold
before your eyes. If you have any questions about pregame strategies or
anything else, shoot me an email and I will be glad to write back.
