Playing baseball as a kid and dreaming of someday
playing in the major leagues was a dream I lived every
day of my life. Through trials and tribulations and never
giving up, I was one of the lucky ones to fulfill my dream.
I am sharing with you, my life and insight into the game.
It made me who I am today and it wasn't until later in life,
that I figured out I was playing the game of life all along.

Baseball Fence Drills

BASEBALL FENCE DRILLS

How to utilize baseball fence drills. Use this drill to make sure you are coming through the zone with your hands on the inside. The quickest and shortest path to the ball. Let's get started!

The first thing to do is watch this outstanding video to your left to see the proper setup. Stand facing a chain link fence. Your body and the fence should be parallel. Take your bat and stick it straight out in front of your body towards the fence. There should only be a little more than the length of the bat space from the fence to your body. This is the start of the baseball fence drills.

Now take your normal stance-remember, you are parallel to the fence as seen in the video. Take your stride and than swing the bat. If you are looping the bat, you will strike the fence. If you are taking the right approach on an inside approach, you will miss the fence. Congratulations! This is the start of a short and compact swing. Practice this baseball fence drill daily or whenever you are out on the ball field to make sure you are on the right path.

In combination with your tee work, this will help promote the ideal swing. Just remember, the shortest path to the ball is a straight line. This is only accomplished by taking the inside approach just as in golf.

What this all means is simple. If you are taking the shortest, quickest avenue to the ball, your swing will be short and direct generating more bat speed. What this also means is you can wait longer, thus, not being fooled as much on off speed pitches. And if you are also applying the tee drills i showed you, than the off speed pitch will not be a problem.

You will be waiting longer, having better balance, and better bat speed, with the quickest route to the ball. Congratulations! Keep practicing and working hard on this baseball fence drill.

You should notice and feel your hands coming through first on an inside plane. Remember also to maintain your balance throughout this exercise. Keep practicing!
