Baseball batting practice drills. Or simply, just batting practice. There is a right way to take batting practice and there is a wrong way. Let's get started!
I like to start off with the bunt down both sidelines. Why? For a
couple of reasons. Even if you are the neighborhood slugger and never
bunt, bunting can help your game.
One, you start off by learning how to control the bat head and to
lay a bunt down just in case you need to help your teammates out with a
sacrifice. Two, it starts your baseball batting practice drills session
with following the ball to the bat. It trains the eyes! So practice a
few bunts to get into the flow of things.
Next, you want to
practice hitting the ball easy just like you are playing pepper. Hitting
the ball to the right side. These are the correct baseball batting
practice drills and techniques you should incorporate into your practice session. I know what you are thinking, you want to slug away and
go downtown! Nope, that will come later as you develop and learn the
basics.
Hit the ball the other way, it has a couple of benefits.
One, it makes you stay back and not open up too soon so you learn to
allow the ball to come to you. Second, it makes your hands come through
first. Remember our conversation about inside out? It applies here.
By starting your batting practice off like this, you are starting
the foundation for starting your hitting with the right fundamentals
intact. You will have the greatest success by doing it this way,
especially as you advance to each level and it gets harder, and the
pitchers get smarter.
Once you've utilized the baseball batting
practice drills and hit a few to the right side, you are now ready to
start hitting up the middle and spraying the ball over the entire field.
Through the other drills and your preparation you should start seeing
an improvement in hitting the ball and having more success.
It won't happen overnight but you are definitely on the right road. Keep practicing!
As
you develop utilizing these techniques and the baseball batting
practice drills you will start to really feel how the swing should be.
You will start hitting the ball better and you will start playing
better. Remember, I am here also to help you so if you have questions
which I know you will, send me an email...
