Let's start with the glove. How do you know if it's right for you? And what types are there? There are all types of gloves and manufacturers. Out of all the gloves that I used throughout my career, I used Rawlings and Wilson.Baseball and equipment go hand in hand, no pun intended! I ended up with Wilson simply because it felt the best. Ahhhh! Felt the best. There lies the answer. What feels the best. You will learn in this game that whatever feels the most comfortable is the best choice for you. For me, it was the Wilson catching glove. For some reason it felt the best. And when you feel comfortable with something you will gain confidence. For you it might be a Rawlings glove.
At any rate, check it out. Put it on, squeeze it, rough it up a little and see if it feels right. This is really important when you are dealing with baseball and equipment. If it does, than you have found your glove of choice. As far as quality, you can never go wrong with Rawlings or Wilson. As far as bats, it boils down to the comfortable thing again. Some people will tell you that you need to go with a 35 inch, 30 ounze bat. Others will tell you other sizes. The real question is what is the best for you? Pick up the bat, take some swings and see how it feels. It should not be too heavy where you struggle to get the bat through the zone. And it should not be too light where you feel like you are swinging a wiffle ball bat. Go with your instincts. What works for someone else may not work with you. Remember, being comfortable in baseball and equipment that feels right is the first part of starting down the right road. Choose wisely and try different models until you find that diamond in the rough.
